Nazar evil eye charm
The nazar is a blue glass eye, made for centuries around Turkey, Greece and the eastern Mediterranean. It's hung in homes, cars and doorways and pinned to newborns' clothes, to turn away the envious look known as the evil eye.
Ours is cobalt glass with white and turquoise rings, strung with ceramic beads and gold spacers. On your desktop it swings from its braided loop, the glass catching the light as it turns. Tap its edge and it twists on the cord.
Its ritual is a flick: double-click it and it spins with a clear glass ring.
